Derek Boshier first came to prominence with his paintings as a student at the Royal College of Art in London in the early 1960s, with fellow students David Hockney, Allen Jones, R.B. Kitaj, and others in the British Pop Art movement. Subsequently he has used other mediums; drawing, printmaking, film, books, three dimensional objects, installations, tapestry and photography among them. His graphic work with popular music groups such as The Clash and David Bowie brought his work to a wider audience. To this day, the visual artifacts of popular culture remain potent ingredients in the artist’s work where corporate logos commingle with history, art, and poetry. Still as prolific and in-demand as ever, in 2021 he had three major exhibitions at Night Gallery (Los Angeles), Garth Greenan Gallery (New York) and Gazelli Art House (London). In 2016, he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal College of Art, London. In 2017, he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. In 2021 he was awarded a Doctorate (Doctor of the Arts) from Solent University in Southampton, UK. He lives and works in Los Angeles.
